Beacon South West - Code of Practice

The Code sets out the common values of membership of Beacon South West.

Beacon South West: the Purpose

Supported by South West England Regional Development Agency, Beacon South West's aim is to increase productivity, profitability and the wealth of the region by:

  • Inspiring individuals and businesses through practical examples of leadership and significant business performance;
  • Working together in high growth clusters to achieve even higher levels of performance;
  • Using real world experience to influence SWRDA strategies and new services provision.

The Beacon South West Promise to its Members

Beacon South West strives to develop a partnership between Beacon Companies and the Beacon team to further the goals listed above.

Beacon South West is committed to:

  • Promoting the success of Beacon Companies
  • Raising awareness of the Beacon brand regionally and nationally
  • Identifying and validating companies who would add value to Beacon South West.
  • Providing a high quality programme of events and activities, in line with the expressed needs of member companies.
  • Facilitating information exchange about good practice and pragmatic solutions both within and outside the Beacon membership.
  • Facilitating mutually beneficial contacts between Beacon companies.
  • Building relationships with each Beacon company
  • Ensuring that any company which no longer merits Beacon status withdraws from membership
  • Removing Beacon status from any company which violates the Beacon Code of Practice.

In its dealings with Beacon companies Beacon South West will:

  • Be professional, courteous and polite
  • Maintain confidentiality
  • Respond quickly
  • Be responsive to members needs
  • Be innovative in our response
  • Make it fun to do business with Beacon
  • Connect people who would not otherwise meet
  • Search out opportunities to promote the strengths of the members

What Commitment do Beacon Companies Make?

  • Be willing to share knowledge and tactics with other businesses to help them implement best practice without the painful evolutionary process
  • Be ambitious for the growth of their people, business and the economy of the region
  • Continually use effective and innovative business practice to achieve higher than average performance
  • Be open to ideas and different ways of doing things
  • Be willing to put 'something back' to ensure the future prosperity of the region as a whole
  • To publicise Beacon and, if appropriate, nominate candidate companies.
  • Participate in at least 3 Beacon activities per year.

Each member of Beacon agrees to:

  • Provide open constructive input to issues raised by others.
  • Regards all specific information relating to a company or individuals within a company as confidential unless otherwise agreed by the company in question.
  • Show integrity
  • Be open, fair and honest at all times
  • Promote cooperation and collaboration between Beacon members
  • Endeavour to provide high quality, accurate information and advice at all times.
  • Represent themselves and the capabilities of their organisation truthfully and in good faith.
  • While recognising that Beacon discussions may lead to new sales, Beacon members agree not to use the Beacon database, or meetings for direct sales approaches or any other sales related purpose.

Detrimental Activities

The Beacon South West Team and Beacon members will not engage in nor condone, nor accept practices that may be to the detriment of Beacon South West, fellow members, or any other company, such as:

  • Misrepresentation of capabilities or results
  • Negative exploitation of information gleaned during discussions
  • Use the Beacon Network to initiate direct sales of their products or services or those of third party organisations
  • Exploitation of information or experience to set up rival networks or activities
