Furniture Recycling Project wins National ‘Green Apple Award’

Gloucestershire's Furniture Recycling Project (FRP) in on track to represent the UK in the European Business Awards for the Environment.

The Project has just been notified that it is among the major winners in the Green Apple Environment Awards - one of the few accredited feeder schemes into the international campaign.

FRP - which has been providing recycling and reuse services in Gloucestershire for over12 years - will be presented with their Green Apple Award at the House of Commons later this year, when top winners have the chance to represent their country in the Brussels event.

Ian Ellis, FRP's Chief Executive, said: 'We were extremely honoured to be recognised nationally for our environmental achievements by being awarded the Green Apple Award for Environmental Best Practice.

"FRP currently supplies approximately 12,000 items a year from our shops at the bus station in Gloucester and Edinburgh Place in Cheltenham to people in need. This award is very much due to the tremendous hard work and dedication of our staff, volunteers and trainees."

The Project is one of the major providers of training to the 16-18 year age group in Gloucestershire, with over 50% of trainees moving in to employment or further education.

Ian added: 'We welcome any new volunteers or trainees who would like to join us in our efforts and help them develop new skills at the same time.'

The Green Apple Awards are now in their fifteenth year and attracted more than 500 nominations this year. They are organised by The Green Organisation, an independent, non-political, non-activist, non-profit environment group dedicated to recognising, rewarding and promoting environmental best practice around the world.
