Rosemullion 'Top Housebuilder'

A Cornish company has been named the nation’s Housebuilder of the Year at the industry’s top awards.

Truro-based Rosemullion Homes picked up the main award and a further 4 trophies, at the What House? Awards 2008 in London.  The company was praised by a Judging panel that included some of the country’s leading architects and housing experts.

“The What House? Awards are the property sector’s Oscars, so this is such a huge achievement for us,” said Rosemullion’s land and planning director, Bruce Brooke-Smith.

“We thought we had a chance of picking up an award for one of the categories we’d entered, but to win 5 awards and be name Housebuilder of the Year is just incredible.”

Mr Brooke-Smith, together with fellow directors Ray Trebilcock and Duncan Cumberland and PA, Jenny Ellis, were awarded the trophy by comedian and Mock the Week presenter Dara O’Briain.

Prior to scooping the award’s top prize, Rosemullion was named as Small Housebuilder of the Year, in one of the evening’s most hotly contested categories.

Mr Brooke-Smith said: “It really goes to show that by having a quality product and a fantastic team behind it, that a Cornish business can have a national impact.”

Rosemullion was praised by the judges for the high quality of its developments and its commitment to sustainability and affordable houses.  They told a 1000-strong audience that the Truro-based company was a “worthy winner of the industry’s biggest trophy.”

Rosemullion also won a gold award for its Belvedere site in Truro, in the “best development” category.  The development also earned silver for “best exterior design” and the company achieved a bronze award in the Sustainable Developer of the Year commendation.

“Coming down to earth it is of course a fantastic achievement for the company to be recognised as Housebuilder of the Year, and I’m proud of our whole team,” said company managing director, Roger Carson.

Last month, Rosemullion featured among the region’s top companies in the Western Morning News Annual Fast Track 75.  With an average growth figure of 40.64% and turnover peaking at more than £5.6 million in the year to December 2006, Mr Carson said that the company was looking confidently to the future.

Rosemullion is currently working on Trinity Watch, a development of 15 new homes in St Ives, including 4 affordable homes for the Devon & Cornwall Housing Association.
